Srinagar, Aug 28 (UNI) There was still no end to hardships being faced by the people in Kashmir in wake of the strike and curfew restrictions since last seven days.
However, a two-hour relaxation in curfew in phases enabled people to purchase whatever was available in market which remained closed since Friday last on a call given by the Coordination Committee (CC) spearheading the present agitation in the Valley.
In the curfew free areas of the Valley, shops and other business establishments remained shut and traffic was off the road.
Government offices, educational institutions and banks also remained closed in these areas.
People continued to face an acute shortage of essential commodities due to an indefinite curfew for the past five days.
The Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Department has decided to keep its depots open during curfew relaxation for consumers. However, almost all depots are without ration.
A high-level meeting had appealed to shopkeepers to open their establishments during relaxation period so that people could purchase essential items.
The Milk Federation, working in the Valley, had been directed to provide milk to consumers and collect curfew passes for staff to make milk available to people in different parts of the city.
However, people from almost all parts of the valley complained about the shortage of essential items, particularly milk for kids.
There were less complaints about shortage of milk, bread and vegetables as compared to previous days.
People were enforcing price control in their respective areas and have requested the shopkeepers to sell their products with little profit.
